Dear alumnae and alumni,
Last year at this point, I asked you to join me in looking to the future with hope, despite the global crises. Now, this year, the current situation worldwide is even more disturbing.
The horrific reports from the war-torn regions leave us stunned and cause feelings of powerlessness.
We want to counteract this and therefore focus all the more on our students and young academics. Because we are firmly convinced that education and research are the key to a positive future.
Heidelberg University offers people of all nations, religions and cultures a safe place for studies, teaching and science, for communication and interaction. Some alumni already support
this with financial or content-related commitment. We thank you for this.
Education as the basis for a successful, self-determined life, freedom for science and research as well as the development of new, innovative ideas, and also making a contribution to equal
opportunities - these continue to be our goals. We would like to realise these with sustainable measures together with you: That is why we are asking for your donation this year!

SUCCESSFUL PROJECTS 2023
|
|
With the support of the HAIcommunity we have sponsored people and realized various projects in the past months. We would like to present some of them here.
|
|
Five aspiring doctors in need from South America, the Middle East and Africa received scholarships and thus came a little closer to their dream of a successful professional future.
Thanks to your donations, they were able to keep to their study plans, have more time to prepare for their exams, and thus avoid dropping out:

|
Two lawyers received grants for short stays. A scientist from Italy was able to advance her research project and present initial results to her Heidelberg colleagues.
A young Chilean, who arrived accompanied by his mentor and Heidelberg alumnus, set the course for his doctorate: a perfect introduction to the Heidelberg research landscape.

|
|
In cooperation with the Gesellschaft der Freunde Universität Heidelberg e.V. (GdF), ten students of archaeology, medicine, physics, theology, and economics from Ecuador, Germany, Hungary, Syria, and Ukraine
could be supported with Study or Graduation Grants and were thus able to continue their studies more carefree or successfully prepare for their graduation.

Career events with alumni and students, continuing education courses such as professional language courses, and the hosting of exam celebrations and other networking events, which serve the
successful entry into the job market and promote professional development, could be subsidized thanks to your donations.
